The RN Nurse Trainer/Compliance Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring nursing training, clinical competency programs, quality assurance initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities across programs that have nursing interventions (Crisis Stabilization, Crisis Residential, Clinical Outpatient Services). This position ensures nursing staff maintain competency in clinical practices, documentation standards, medication management, infection control, and applicable state, federal, and payer regulations.
The RN Nurse Trainer/Compliance Specialist serves as a clinical educator and compliance resource, supporting high-quality participant care while ensuring adherence to organizational policies, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and regulatory mandates. The position collaborates closely with program leadership, quality improvement staff, and clinical teams to identify training needs, monitor compliance trends, and implement corrective action and performance improvement initiatives.
This position requires paid work experience in psychiatric, mental health or behavioral health setting. Local travel is required and a car, driver's license and clean driving record.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Training and Education
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver onboarding and ongoing training programs for nursing and clinical staff.
- Provide instruction and competency assessment related to:
- Medication administration and management
- Nursing documentation
- Infection prevention and control
- Clinical protocols and procedures
- Emergency response procedures
- HIPAA and confidentiality requirements
- Trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care
- Develop training materials, curricula, job aids, and educational resources.
- Facilitate classroom, virtual, and field-based training sessions.
- Maintain training records and competency verification documentation.
- Provide coaching and clinical consultation to staff and supervisors.
- Stay current on best practices, regulatory updates, and emerging healthcare trends and integrate changes into training programs.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine audits of clinical records, medication documentation, nursing practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor compliance with licensing, accreditation, payer, and organizational standards.
- Identify compliance risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Develop corrective action plans and provide follow-up monitoring to ensure successful implementation.
- Collaborate with program leadership to improve documentation quality and clinical outcomes.
- Review serious incidents and medication errors to inform training, competency based training plans, and QI initiatives.
- Assist in preparation for external audits, surveys, licensing reviews, and accreditation visits.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, county, and payer regulations affecting clinical operations.
- Participate in quality improvement, utilization review, and performance improvement activities.
- Generate audit findings, compliance reports, and recommendations for leadership.
Program Support
- Assist with implementation of clinical initiatives, workflows, and regulatory requirements.
- Support policy and procedure development and revisions.
- Participate in incident review, risk management, and quality assurance committees.
- Serve as subject matter expert regarding nursing standards and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support participant-centered care and operational excellence.
- Provide direct clinical support as needed within scope of licensure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible nursing experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing staff education, training, supervision, or competency development.
- Experience with healthcare compliance, quality assurance, chart audits, or regulatory oversight.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, infection control standards, and healthcare documentation requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
- Experience as a practitioner in the behavioral health space.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications of Word, Excel and Outlook are required.
- A car driver's license and clean driving record is required.
Preferred
- Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or equivalent training credential.
- Experience in behavioral health, community health, homeless services, or integrated care settings.
- Experience with Medi-Cal, Medicare, Joint Commission, CARF, or Community Care Licensing compliance.
- Quality improvement, risk management, or accreditation experience.
