Provides leadership and oversight to organization’s medical and health service programs; provides direction, consultation, support to medical practitioners. Participates as a member of the leadership team in the development and implementation of organization-wide policies and programs that will contribute to its overall success. Provides wellness and recovery services to chronic and severe mentally ill adults. Our programs operate with a wraparound model of care with a team approach to provide integrated service geared towards developing community and natural supports as these adults transition out of the behavioral health care system to community supports.  The Medical Director is an integral part of the team. The team approach is essential and input from all members of the team drive the care for the clients.  

This position can be hybrid, but must be partially on site based in Sacramento or Oakland/Hayward East Bay 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Manages Psychiatrists and Prescribers; provides supervision and oversite of extenders (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, etc.), Director of Nursing and nursing staff. 
  • Oversees the quality assurance program; ensures compliance with medical risk management and healthcare related regulations and policies.
  • Develops and implements in-service training programs for clinical programs and services; develops policies and protocols to ensure quality client/patient services and care.
  • Provides direct patient care including prescribing and monitoring medication for participants, and provide ongoing direction of such care to the team.
  • Provides ongoing consultation on participant treatment issues and quality of care to the treatment team and other clinical staff.
  • Responds to program emergencies. 
  • Oversees charting required for County Utilization Review/Medi-Cal purposes.  
  • Complete documentation necessary for billing Medication Support Services for Medi-Cal.
  • Supervise the monitoring of medication logs to ensure accuracy, conformity with medication policies and procedures.
  • Represents the organization as the medical head of services to funders, stakeholders, community and policy forums.
  • Provides consultation and liaison when necessary and appropriate to the local professional community to coordinate treatment.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of an ongoing in-service training and continuing education program for staff.
  • Leads in the development and implementation of ongoing psychiatric, medical, and physical health practices for staff.
  • Attends agency and/or mental health system meetings when requested and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Graduate of approved medical school with MD degree.
  • Valid CA DEA License.
  • Valid California Medical License and Board Certified or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry, and general practice.
  • Experience as a Psychiatrist in an outpatient setting.
  • Experience as a Medical Director of a community-based organization or equivalent, 10 years preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience with computerized medical records, electronic prescribing and should possess a team driven attitude with a high level of organization, efficiency and collaboration.

  • Competitive salary of $364,000, exempt
